Task: Develop the visual identity for the new student organization.
Project Type: Visual Identity/Branding
Medium(s): Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
A coordinator from the university approached and asked me to create the logo for a new organization that would re-brand an old one. SIE (Student Involvement Engagement) is an organization that studies student involvement for on-campus events pertaining to The Office Of Student Life & Cultural Centers (OSLCC). The inspiration for the typographic silhouettes is based off nudging people to join in on the fun. Orange is color of change. People's attitudes about the campus begin to change after they attend the various events. College is all about change and you're never the same when you first entered.
The second issue was how to physically introduce the new organization to the student body. The best way to get people excited about anything is to go straight to them. I developed mock merchandise that OSLCC can raffle off to the students (buttons, pens, memo pads, bags, and water bottles). Unfortunately, due to the pandemic all production was halted as well as the re-brand of the old organization. However, I really liked this project and the meaning behind the logo.
Boring isn't fun. So why should your logo be boring? There's already enough corporate logos on the campus.
Early Sketches & Renditions
The original concept was focused on "fulfillment." From my experience, I find that participating in college events creates the college experience. OSLCC offers a variety of events catered to the interests of the student body. Events such as greek life networking parties, social justice leader workshops, and drag queen bingo, students are able to shape their experiences and meet people with similar interests along the way.
